Jazz and improvisational pianist and bandleader Keith Jarrett was born on May 8, 1945, in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Jarret, a prodigy who began playing piano at age 3, had a brief stint with Art Blakely’s Jazz Messengers in New York in 1965 and then a three-year run with the Charles Lloyd Quartet. He played with Miles Davis’ band from ’69 to ’71, formed two groups of his own in the ’70s and continued to be a prominent jazz musician into the millennium.
