this is weird! Almost 40 years ago Santa Claus gave me a Viewmaster.  I long ago forgot about it until now I stumble upon those pre-historic 3D images: they awakened my imagination, for hours and  hours I watched them, over and over ….

The View-Master system was invented by William Gruber, an organ maker and avid photographer who lived in Portland, Oregon.  He had the idea to use the old idea of the stereoscope and update it with the new Kodachrome color film that had just hit the market. A chance meeting with  Harold Graves, the president of Sawyer’s, Inc. (a company that specialized in picture post cards) got the idea off the ground and quickly took over the postcard business at Sawyer’s.View-Master was first introduced at the New York World’s Fair in 1939.  It was originally marketed through photo shops, stationary stores and scenic attraction gift shops. Over the years 3D reels have been produced for Disneyland, many TV shows, movies, scenic places and parks, and even for the US military for airplane/ship identification and range estimation.

3. Tublat thought the child was too puny to bother with.

4. As Tarzan grew he played tricks on grouchy old Tublat.

5. One day Tarzan forced the mystery hut’s door open.

6. Inside he found a knife — and he learned to read books.

7. When a native killed old Kala, Tarzan took his revenge.

8. With the native’s bow, Tarzan slew Numa, the lion

9. “I am Tarzan — the mightiest hunter,” he told Kerchak

10. Mad with rage Kerchak fought to the death with Kerchak.

11. After his knife struck home, Tarzan gave his victory cry.

12. One day Tarzan saw his first ship — and a girl!

13. The crew buried the treasure — as Tarzan watched.

14. Tarzan pulled Prof. Porter from Sabor’s claws.

15. But evil Terkoz captured Jane while Tarzan was gone.

16. Tarzan leaped through the trees in wild pursuit

17. With a mighty thrust, Tarzan broke Terkoz’s neck.

18. Jane found that Tarzan could read and write but could not speak.

19. Tarzan returned Jane to her happy father.

20. Then he brought the buried treasure to the Prof

21. Porters told Tarzan he was a man — not an ape!
